不久后，一只山羊路过这口井。它看到狐狸在井下，感到十分好奇，便开口问道：“狐狸先生，你在井下做什么呢？”
狐狸眼珠一转，立刻想出了一个诡计。它装作镇定自若的样子，对山羊说：“哦，山羊朋友，难道你没有听说吗？这里即将迎来一场严重的大旱，水源会变得极其稀缺。我提前跳进这口井里，就是为了确保自己有充足的水喝，不至于在大旱来临时渴死。你为什么不也下来呢？这里的水又清凉又甘甜。”
