B:Martha is a girl aged 14,this year she is in the eighth grade.Martha’s father is a
farm laborer [劳动者]who couldn’t earn enough money to feed all children ,so he sent Martha to the grandfather to raise when she was 6.
Martha ‘s school has a tradition ,every year during the eighth grade graduation .A beautiful gold and green jacket is awarded to the class valedictorian[致告别词的毕业生],the student who had maintained the highest grades for 8 years .
Martha had been a straight A student since the first grade ,she was so looking forward to owning the jacket. So that she can participate in sports at school .
B2:One day in May ,Martha happened to see two teachers were quarreling in the
classroom. One is history teacher ,the other is math teacher.
Quarrel:
H:I refuse to do it! I don’t care who her father is, her grades don’t even begin to
compare to Martha’s. I won’t lie or falsify[窜改] records. Martha has a straight A plus average and you know it.
A:Look , Joann’s father is not only on the Board , he owns the only store in town; we
could say it was a close tie and----Martha is Mexican…
B:The second day ,the principal calls Martha to his office, he looked uncomfortable
and unhappy.
